The Why
The Durham (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated recognizes the connections between housing and health. It also recognizes the connections between housing and wealth. Today, Durham continues to face a housing crisis of significant proportions. As numerous national publications continually rank our region as one of the best places to live and work in the nation, new residents are pouring in weekly. That dynamic is leading to inadequate supplies of housing at every income level. In addition, our new residents have higher incomes, on average, than existing residents. That dynamic is leading to competition for limited housing at higher prices than many existing residents can afford. It is also leading to unrelenting gentrification.
The How
In honor of our 65 years of service, The Durham (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, in partnership with The Links Foundation, Incorporated is striving to create affordable housing opportunities for the most disproportionately impacted demographic in Durham – African American mothers, this campaign seeks to raise $65,000 to contribute to partner organizations that share the same aim.
